Bodybag match
The Undertaker w/ Paul Bearer vs. The Ultimate Warrior
Found this on a YT channel called CWAMemphis. Check ‘em out if you’re ever looking for wrestling outside of your comfort zone especially old school Japanese wrestling. Anyway, Taker and Warrior in ‘91 is a horrifying concept. Taker traditionally moves at the speed of snails mating and Warrior is…well Warrior. There’s a clash of styles here that could absolutely sink this match. But does it…yeah kind of.
Taker tries to attack Warrior before he gets in the ring but Warrior turns the tables and drags Taker out of the ring. He beats on Mean Mark outside and inside in the ring until Taker makes his comeback and hits his signature Flying Clothesline. Just as I was about to note that Taker seemed to moving faster than he did on TV, he walks across the ring like he’s fresh off a huge dump. Then the match begins to sink.
Booger Red chokes Warrior in the corner which Warrior sells by vigorously humping the air. The take the spot to the next corner and again more air humping. But this time Warrior starts to slowly go down in the corner while still humping and gyrating while arched over. Honestly 10/10 lumbar support.
Bearer strikes Warrior with the urn and Warrior flops before standing up like nothing happened because he has to be in position for a third corner choke spot. Fuck. I can only watch so much of one man air humping before I get start to get testy. Warrior thankfully fights and turns the tables.
Warrior gives me a heart attack by setting Taker up for a Powerbomb or Piledriver. Thankfully, Mark takes three safe Piledrivers before botching a Warrior Splash dodge. Terrific. It’s time for the bodybag to come out which cues ANOTHER long choke spot to set Warrior up for the bag. Warrior fights out, batters Taker with the urn and his fist and zips the bag shut for the win.
Honestly, for a fifteen minute Taker/Warrior match it wasn’t as bad as I was expecting. Wasn’t great though. I can’t even use the house show excuse because these just wrestled like they always did. Taker was in control for a long stretch which dragged on. Unless you’re a big fan of Warrior air humping that is. Credit where credits due however, the Toronto crowd never let up. They were just ecstatic to see their favorite wrestlers live and in person. Warrior seriously gets an Austin level pop when he makes his entrance.
