Day 7 2024

Mid-South Wrestling 6/28/84

The Midnight Express (Dennis Condrey and Bobby Eaton) w/ Jim Cornette vs. Josh Stroud and Mike Jackson

I wanted to mix it up a little and I’ve never covered Mid-South/UWF so I decided what the hell. I looked through a couple of cards before deciding to just close my eyes and pick an episode from 1984. I scrolled through and stopped landing about halfway through this match, so I rewound it and now here we are.

First order of business, Mike Jackson’s hair is PUNISHED. He’s got one large cauffe off to the side with a thin line connecting it to the hair on the other side, a giant bald spot, and then the rest of his hair. At some point you just have to know it’s over.

Surprisingly, Stroud actually takes control early out running Eaton and almost getting a two count off of a Crossbody. Jackson gets the tag and conintues the fast flurry with agile takedowns, hip tosses, and Lucha style Headscissors. Eaton catches him trying a Dropkick and tags in Condrey. He rogues the guy up a bit before bringing Bobby back who doesn’t do much before brining Loverboy back. Stroud gets the tag in and comes in like a house fire…a fire that’s quickly extinguished by Loverboy just roughing him around. A Powerslam followed by a Three Stooges spot (Condrey down on all fours behind his opponent, Eaton runs in with a Clothesline, knocking the opponent back and tumbling over Condrey) for the win.

Uneventful but good. I’m surprised Midnight didn’t just run over these fools. They were the Tag Champs and coming off a Loser Leaves Town match with the Rock N’ Roll Express.
